An Autumn Sunset Wedding

Mallory and David

Over the past year we have had the privilege of planning a fall wedding for Mallory and David. From the Autumn tones to the unique personal touches, it was a joy to come alongside this sweet couple to plan and design their wedding celebration from start to finish.

Mallory and David were introduced through mutual friends in Washington D.C. while David was still in the Navy. Their love story continued to grow over the years and Mallory said “yes” to forever in 2022. We were thrilled when Mallory and David reached out to us about planning their wedding day. Not only do we love the opportunity to help couples plan their wedding, but we were especially drawn to the warmth, kindness, and joy of this couple! By late summer 2022, we jumped into searching for the perfect venue to host their dream wedding. After selecting the Army Navy Club, we got to work selecting vendors and discussing details for their big day. From our first toast of champagne at our venue site visit to our final meeting, Mallory and David were a dream to work with throughout the entire planning process.

The morning of October 7, the ladies had a relaxed and lovely morning getting prepared for the day at Union Square Loft in Old Town Alexandria. The day had begun with some rain, but cleared up to make way for beautiful blue skies just in time for the bride and groom’s first look on cobblestone streets. It was a quintessential fall day in Virginia and the perfect day for Mallory and David to say “I do.”

Designing the look and feel for the wedding day is one of our favorite aspects of the planning process, and this was no different! Our design theme landed on what we coined “Autumn Sunset,” which featured burnt orange, marigold, and other gorgeous fall hues. The bridesmaids complimented the Autumn tones by wearing unique dresses in chestnut and umber tones. The men looked dashing as well in their black tuxes and Brackish feather bow ties, a tribute to David’s hometown of Charleston.

The ceremony took place on the upper patio balcony at the Army Navy Country Club. With clear blue skies, an array of flowers adorning the aisles, and monuments as the backdrop, it was a picturesque moment when Mallory and David exchanged vows and a newlywed kiss! Guests mingled on the patio for cocktail hour as wine and champagne were passed following the ceremony. A live jazz trio and an array of delicious hors d’oeuvres including a seared scallop station were enjoyed by everyone. We can’t forget the special appearance of Frank on the cocktail napkins and drink stirrers! We love all of the personal details that were incorporated throughout the night, many of which highlighted Mallory and David’s sweet dog, Frank.

Each detail was purposefully planned. One of these special moments of the night was the oyster escort shell display. As guests entered into the ballroom they selected their personalized oyster shell and seat assignment. Each shell had a ribbon tied to it, so guests can hang it on their Christmas tree this holiday season. Not only was this display gorgeous, but it was thoughtful and personal to Mallory and David as oysters hold special memories for them; they were enjoying oysters when David first told Mallory he loved her, and again when their parents first met.

The grand ballroom was a jaw dropping and magical place to spend the evening. Another remarkable moment was the six-tiered traditional wedding cake – made by Mallory’s grandmother! The cake stand and topper are family heirlooms passed down through generations in Mallory’s family. Adorned with lovely cream blooms by Flor de Casa, this was certainly one of many focal points throughout the evening.

The party continued with phenomenal music by the Bachelor Boys and was fueled by late night snacks! If guests weren’t busy dancing, they could enjoy a cigar on the patio from the petite cigar bar or warm up with a glass of wine and complimentary pashminas (in the color scheme, of course!). This blissful wedding day ended with a magical sparkler exit as guests sent off the brand new Mr. and Mrs. Bedard.

It was such an honor to be a part of Mallory and David’s Autumn wedding day! Cheers to many more years of love as husband and wife!
